Gallery: Extreme Show Bikes by McCoy Motorsports

by Apex Speed Technology

AIM Displays have always been powerful in motorsports competition, but they also add a great high-tech touch to custom and show vehicles. Working with McCoy Motorsports, Apex Speed Technology has integrated AIM products into 3 bikes which not only go fast, but look great doing so!

nitrous injected Yamaha R1

Our first project was a nitrous injected Yamaha R1. McCoy wanted a dash display that was modern, stylish and functional, providing the rider with the kind of data crucial to keeping 300HP on the ground. The result? AIM MXL Stradas with custom sensors to monitor nitrous pressure for purging at the line and air pressure for the airshift system. We utilized the stock speed sensor, tach output, water temp sensor and neutral light, and did so by rewiring the stock dash connector for a very clean, stock-appearing installation.

The 2nd bike was even more radical, a turbocharged R1 built with the help of roadracing legends Graves Motorsports. We replaced nitrous pressure with boost, again connecting to the same manifold pressure sensor that fed the engine control unit. This bike won the “Best New Product” award at the 2006 Indy Motorcycle Dealers show.

The 3rd bike is a custom Suzuki Hayabusa which is being built for the “Metric TV” biker build-off show. It is the most radical Suzuki Hayabusa ever built, with a custom frame, single-sided swingarm, massive wheels, incredible lighting and a translucent powder-coated AIM dash which is jaw-dropping in its appearance. Special thanks to Chad and the gang at AIM Southeast for disassembling and re-assembling the case for us! The Hayabusa will be rolled out in Vegas in August, and we’re under strict orders NOT to take any pictures until then, so stay tuned. This will be about the most radical custom sportbike ever built.

All three bikes feature Plug & Play Bazzaz Performance ECUs which unfortunately do not have a datastream output for AIM dashes. Still, there was no problem sharing sensors such as water temp, RPM, or manifold pressure between the two, resulting in seamless integration with no effect on sensor readings and a very clean installation. Another testament to the flexibility of AIM display system.
